MECHANISMS OF ACTION  :

    Polyphenols are antioxidant molecules with at least one phenolic ring. They trap and neutralize the surrounding oxygenated free radicals.

The measure of the Pomactiv® Hfv antioxidant power by the ORAC method is 12.100 µmol Trolox equivalent/g.
Pomactiv® Hfv is a powerful antioxidant extract. Pomactiv® Hfv, which contains 40% of polyphenol, is 4 times more antioxidant than pure Vitamin C (regarded up to now as one of the base antioxidants) or 5 times more antioxidant than pure Vitamin E.

An in vitro study on aged dermal human fibroblasts was undertaken. Treatment of aged fibroblasts by Pomactiv® Hfv has generated significant modifications in the expression of many genes.

Influence of Pomactiv® Hfv on the expression of genes implied in the antioxidant system of defence. Culture of senescent aged dermal human fibroblasts.

Main compounds involved in body Redox system of defence have been over expressed by this extract. Especially, genes of the glutaredoxins, the metallothioneins and the superoxyde dismutase 2 (located near the mitochondria) are highly expressed. All these molecules are involved in the Redox system of defence against the oxygenated free radicals and the oxydative stress.

More than expressing their own antioxidant power, Pomactiv® Hfv actives stimulate the action of the endogenous antioxidant molecules.
