INHIBITION OF GLUCOSE ABSORPTION : POMACTIV® WLA


Effects :

  • Decrease the entrance of glucose into the adipocytes.
  • Inhibition of the pre-adipocytes differentiation into adipocytes.
Glucose transformation and storage in the fat cells

Mechanisms of action :

    Phloridzin is a competitive inhibitor of glucose transmembrane absorption.

Phloridzin is a trap molecule which misleads the receptor responsible for the introduction of glucose into cells. Phloridzin affinity with this receptor is 1000 times superior to the glucose one.
Glucose is the sole molecule able to cross the cellular membrane. Phloridzin has the capacity to fix on the glucose receptor to make it momentary not available for the assimilation of surrounding glucose.

One of the main roles of adipocytes (fat cells) is to store the excess of sugar into fat. By limiting the quantity of glucose assimilated by the cells, its accumulation and transformation into lipids is limited.

Pomactiv® Wla slimness properties have been proved by in vitro studies. Morphological observations made on cells cultures, grown on a medium promoting the differentiation of the pre-adipocytes into adipocytes, gave the following results.

Morphological studies of cells cultures through coloration of intracellular lipidic masses have shown that Pomactiv® Wla extract significantly inhibits lipids accumulation into differentiated cells.

These results have been confirmed by further studies regarding the expression of genes involved in pre-adipocyte/adipocyte differentiation. Pomactiv® Wla repress the expression of PPARζ gene (Peroxisome Proliferator Activited Receptor Gamma). The increase of PPARζ rate is related to the increased differenciation of pre-adipocytes into adipocytes. By repressing its expression, Pomactiv® Wla limits the capacity of pre-adipocytes to develop into adipocytes.
